About

Note from Kristin:

Hello!  Thanks for visiting my site.  I started working as a filmmaker in 2005, just when Documentary Film was on the cusp of exploding, both commercially and independently.  Revolutions in cost-effective production equipment and communication opportunities began to open up media in new ways.  Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11 spear-headed politically charged film with mainstream theatrical distribution, and on a smaller scale concerned citizens began to contribute to a media dialogue that before was almost exclusively in the hands of big corporations and media outlets.  I began studying documentary film because I saw a pressing need for a more varied and less corporate-driven dialogue.  I am so happy that media production is becoming what it is today; a democratic, inclusive conversation that, due to an open and free internet (made possible by Net Neutrality - please google this topic), will not be able to continue to be monopolized in the way that all mainstream communications were in the past.

With this company I am seeking to blend professional production techniques in conjunction with contemporary theories of collaboration, community participation, interactivity, and new media.  All content on this site is licensed under a Creative Commons Noncommercial Share Alike 3.0 platform.

I am interested in shedding light on inspiring voices.  Topics that New Media Films will focus on include entrepreneurship, environmental sustainability, the arts, and education.  The ultimate goal of this company can be summed up as this: New Media Films exists to produce educational, cooperative, and accessible ideas and practices that help contribute to the evolution of a progressive culture.

Please comment on the films with any thoughts as you watch them.  Also, there are links to our the NMF Twitter and Facebook pages, so please stay in touch!

Sincerely,

Kristin ten Broeck
